RULE NUMBER ONE OF FUSSY EATING
July 17th 2008 10:37
Why do we dine out? In simple terms it is because we need food as fuel. Cool hey. "Derrr."
On a subconsious level it is to treat our selves, we want something out of the ordinary from our usual routine, and let's face it, it can be a lifestyle. Some people just have to be seen at the or in the right scene.
Let's look at the idea of treating ourselves, what does that mean? Well we want to try something new that tantalises our tastebuds, or we have a favourite that we can never seem to get right at home, we want to feel special and most importantly we do not want to do the dishes. So an insider secret, that is really the number one rule:
CUSTOMERS ARE NOT ALWAYS RIGHT!
WHAT!??! I hear you say, well this whole hospitality thing is two sided. The waiting staff and Chefs, wait for it... are PEOPLE. That's right people, yes you have a right to expect quality service, but remember the people who serve you are PEOPLE. This means customers do not have the right to be insufferable prats.
This rule is the most important. Why you ask, well hospitality is like a game you have two teams, the customers who want a treat, and secretly they want to be guided by the waiting staff(I'll expalin this further in rule number two). And on the other team you have the hospitality staff, their goal is to give the best service humanly possible.
This is a game if played properly where both sides win, and that all starts with Rule number one, expect to be treated and let the staff do there job, and if you find the right establishment the staff will play and you will get the best service of your life. If you are an insufferable prat, well let's say both sides lose and it can get unpleasant.
At this point I can't tell you how many rule there are but I don't thing it is too many, but stay tuned for Rule number two.
